Why the Toniebox Was the Perfect First Birthday Gift

When my baby turned one, I wanted his birthday to feel extra special. My sister and I are only 14 months apart, and while we didn’t always get along growing up, we’re inseparable now. She absolutely adores my baby—and honestly, he is completely spoiled by her!
So when it came time for his first birthday, she was just as excited as I was to find the perfect gift. She surprised him with a Toniebox Starter Set (the one that comes with the adorable little dog figurine), and it turned out to be such a hit.
If you’re not familiar with the Toniebox, it’s a screen-free audio player designed for kids. Instead of staring at a tablet or TV, little ones place small figurines—called Tonies—on top of the box. Each Tonie tells stories, sings songs, or plays music. It’s interactive, fun, and educational, which as a teacher and a mom is something I really value.
My sister and I spent hours after his party scrolling Amazon, racing to find our favorite Tonie characters to add to his collection. (Pro tip: there are SO many choices—everything from lullabies and classic fairy tales to Disney favorites.)

Here are a few of our top picks: As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
The Toniebox Starter Set – Comes with the dog Tonie that plays songs and stories, perfect for first-time users.
Disney Tonies – Moana, Lion King, Lightning McQueen—you name it.
Bedtime Songs Tonie – My favorite for winding down in the evening. Gentle songs that help my baby relax before bed.
Classic Stories Tonies – Timeless tales like Guess How Much I Love You or Peter Rabbit.
Snoop Dogg’s Doggyland Tonie – Our absolute favorite! The songs are upbeat, fun, and get my baby dancing every single time.
I love that the Toniebox keeps my baby entertained without a screen, and it’s something he can grow with. Right now, he loves pressing the ears to change volume and bopping along to the songs. As he gets older, I know he’ll start listening to longer stories and eventually pick out his own Tonies.
As an educator, I’ve always looked for toys that help with learning and development, and the Toniebox checks all the boxes. My sister feels the same way—she’s a teacher too—and we both agree it’s the perfect blend of fun and educational.
If you’re looking for a meaningful gift for a first birthday (or really any toddler!), the Toniebox is hands down one of my top recommendations.
